St. Frideswide 'The Ship of Souls' 1859 |
||
The Ship of Souls is part of Burne-Jones's St. Frideswide window in
Oxford's Christ Church Cathedral. 'Flashed' ruby glass is used
for the souls in the ship. ( Thick pieces of red glass would be too dark
to let in the light, so glassmakers 'flashed' a thin layer of red glass
onto white glass.) |
Oxford Cathedral has four other windows by Burne-Jones, all designed for William Morris, not for Powell's. |
